 Savennières Coulée de Serrant is one of France’s most extraordinary and inimitable white wines, born from a vineyard with nearly nine hundred years of unbroken history. The Clos de la Coulée de Serrant is a standalone appellation a 7 hectare *monopole* tended by the Joly family with absolute rigor and devotion first planted by Cistercian monks in 1130 on steep slopes overlooking the Loire. It is a place that defies comparison; it exists in a category of its own, and this wine is its purest expression. Terroir is the true protagonist here: deep, free-draining soils of red schist and quartz impart a razor-sharp minerality and tension to the Chenin Blanc that few white wines in the world can match. The vines some over eighty years old sink their roots into this ancient rock, producing extremely low yields and grapes of rare concentration.
